How To Find a Job During #COVID19

Get exposure. That’s it.


Though it wouldn’t be nice to just leave it at that, the fact is that, at some level, we all know this. If a tree falls in a forest and nobody’s around to hear it then there’s nobody around to care.


In the same way, if you’re a talented job seeker who would make an awesome employee and nobody can find you, then you’re less likely to get that dream job.


Employers can't hire you if they can't find you.

It’s not enough to have experience, a solid education and a full resume. How and where you present yourself matters just as much. Your connections matter, what people say about your work matters and having a place where you can present your portfolio matters. Employers can't hire you if they can't find you.


Thankfully, there are ways to sell yourself to potential employers at little to no cost. All that you need to do is apply a little bit of effort and a sprinkle of creativity.




  1. Update your LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn is designed to show off who you are in a snapshot. It establishes on the surface that you are a real person and based on your interactions with posts, it shows off your personality. When you complete your profile accurately, recruiters can find you using key search terms. It’s a quick way to close the gap between you and a potential recruiter.

  2. Join a Talent portal for people in your industry. It makes it a lot easier for people to find you. If you’re looking for apples, it makes sense that you’ll go to a place where apples are sold. If you’re looking for a doctor, you’d go to a database with doctors so you can search for one that can help you. It’s the same thing when recruiters are looking for someone to hire. They go looking where they know they’d find people within that industry. Thankfully, there are spaces for you to go. If you’re in the tech industry, you can create a profile on The GDI Talenthub.   3. Join a community. It takes a village. Even now. There’s so much to be gained by finding like minded people in a similar career space as you. They can provide you with advice, mentor-ship and even job opportunities. You can find and form friendships that would guide you in your personal career. Having mentors and colleagues in a digital space can transform the way you navigate your career and think about the way you work. You can find people to help out everywhere. LinkedIn and Facebook have “Group” features that allows you to join healthy spaces where you can express ideas and form valuable connections. Many people have found jobs they love because of the influence of colleagues and that’s not going to stop anytime soon. Okay. That’s the end of the article. But the gist remains the same:
