Meet Jack Virag, our Office Manager, and newest GDI team member. Get to know him:
How long have you been working in your field?
I have been in my field for only about a year! I’m still in that new stage where everything is exciting and the possibilities are endless. I previously worked in various restaurant management positions until I could no longer deny that the service industry was not where I wanted to be. I spent the next year in a support role to the CEO of an architecture firm. I learned a lot at the firm, especially about myself. I felt closer to my personal goals, but not on target yet. The more I used technology to streamline our processes, the more I realized I belonged in the IT industry.
What do you enjoy most about your occupation?
Although I thoroughly enjoy many different aspects of my occupation, learning new software is definitely my favorite! I could spend hours clicking around and watching tutorials just to unlock a software’s maximum functionality. The best software tends to be extremely innovative, and learning how to use it intuitively makes you more effective.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
In my free time I play the guitar- pretty much solely electric. I also enjoy doing nature stuff; Hanging out on the Huron river, hiking, biking, canoeing. I try to volunteer at various Dawn Farm functions in Ann Arbor when I can. I have two very noisy cockatiels at home who love whistling and waking up too early.
What’s your favorite lunch spot in Ann Arbor?
Hands-down Zingerman’s Delicatessen. Not only is it the best food around, but it’s also a staple of our community! Satchel’s Barbecue on Washtenaw is a close second.
What are you most looking forward to in working with InfoReady & GDI Infotech?
I’m most looking forward to my own personal development within both the company as well as within the IT industry. There is so much to learn, especially at this unique duo company. I’m constantly searching for new opportunities and experiences. My current goal is to become a valuable developer, but I’m “taking my time” by exploring as many options as possible along the way, and saying “yes” to everything I can.
